COVID-19 Info

The Discovery Tree is taking the following precautions during Pennsylvania's Green Phase:

Cleaning Protocol and Modified Program Hours ...
In order to give staff additional time to clean, disinfect, launder, and organize, we are closing at 5:30 pm instead of 6:00 pm during the Green Phase.
In addition to our usual cleaning procedures which are consistent with the requirements set forth by the CDC, we routinely clean surfaces and objects that are frequently touched including light switches, door handles, sink handles, playground equipment, chairs, etc.
Details about our cleaning schedule are available here: https://nrckids.org/files/appendix/AppendixK.pdf

Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette ...
Staff wear cloth face masks or plastic face shields.

We follow preventive methods including meticulous handwashing, avoiding touching our faces, and wearing gloves for diaper changing and food service.

All children and staff engage in hand hygiene at the following times:
• Arrival to the facility and after breaks
• Before and after preparing food or drinks
• Before and after eating or handling food, or feeding children
• Before and after administering medication or medical ointment
• Before and after diapering
• After using the toilet or helping a child use the bathroom
• After coughing, sneezing, or coming in contact with bodily fluid
• After playing outdoors
• After handling garbage

Visitor Restrictions ...
All visitors are required to wear masks and wash or sanitize hands upon entry. Body temperature is checked using a no-touch thermometer. Any person with a temperature of 100 degrees or above, or who is displaying signs of illness, will be asked to leave the facility.
Therapists and support professionals who administer services during program hours must call to schedule an appointment before coming.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Time ...
Parents must wear face masks to enter the facility and are kindly asked to remain six feet apart from others.  When entering a classroom, parents go directly to the sink to wash hands, wash child's hands, and then sign in on the clipboard.  A staff member will take parent and child's temperature with a no-touch thermometer.

Children will not be admitted to the program who have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher or who show symptoms of illness including but not limited to coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing. There will be no exceptions to these guidelines, even for children who are experiencing teething, allergies, and asthma symptoms. Parents are not permitted to administer fever-reducing medication to bring a child’s temperature within acceptable range.

We ask that only one parent or guardian drop-off at a time and that communication remain brief at drop-off time in order to make the process as efficient and safe as possible. We happily accept written notes, phone calls, and Bloomz communication.

Personal Belongings ...
No car seats or strollers may be left at the facility. Lunch bags are opened at drop-off time and all contents removed and placed in a gallon Ziploc bag which is labelled and placed in the refrigerator.

For naptime, we ask that children ages one and older are sent with one thin blanket and no pillow. If a soft toy is necessary for comfort, we ask that you limit naptime items to one small soft toy. Naptime items will remain at the facility and will be laundered onsite. Please label all personal belongings clearly. Please do not send toys from home. “Show and Tell” is postponed until further notice.

Please know that we want your children to feel emotionally and physically safe and comfortable while at our program. All of the above procedures are being implemented with safety in mind. Our staff will provide comfort and love for your children as we all transition to the new normal.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Reporting Requirements ...
If there is a positive case of COVID-19 in a child or adult who has been present in the child care facility, we are required to call the PA Department of Health and also our regulatory agency, OCDEL (Office of Child Development and Early Learning). We will also inform all parents immediately and give updates regarding the guidance we receive from available resources.
